Following on from yesterday’s blog post sharing with you my Autumn Bucket List I’m getting right on it with some Autumn crafts for you. We were super lucky to get some amazing bits from Baker Ross who have a great selection of craft supplies but I especially love all the seasonal/holiday themed packs!
When I first looked at these Ceramic Hedgehog’s I didn’t think they would be the best craft for Amelia but I was pleasantly surprised and she did so well with them. It’s the first time she’s actually painting ‘something’ other than just paper/card and she loved it. We got a pack of 6 different coloured Porcelain Paint Pots so had your basic colours to choose from.
Amelia loved dipping in her paintbrush and she was being so careful with her painting which is quite unlike her! She had a bit of a sing song whilst she was painting and it was funny trying to get her to say hedgehogs which at the beginning of the day was “hoggogs” then by then end was a pretty clear “hedge…hog”! We did two each as I don’t think Amelia needed to do all four plus I was really keen to have a go myself! It reminded me of going to Poole Pottery and painting the little pottery animals there when I was younger.
It says on the paint to leave it 24hours to dry then put it in the oven but I left them most of the day to dry then just popped them in the oven and they seemed fine! To paint the four hedgehogs we barely used any of the paint so that means we’ve got plenty left to paint an entire kitchen cupboard of mugs so well worth the buy.
As they are actually hedgehog tealight holders just before Amelia’s bedtime I popped the tealights in so she could see them. She was super impressed and kept saying “wow”! I’m really happy with how these turned out and at how well Amelia did with painting them. She concentrated so hard and hers ended up looking really good. For four of the hedgehogs for under £5 I think that is a really great and different Autumn/seasonal arty activity.
According to google as I’m the least sporty person in the world and the only sport my Dad has on in the house is football the Rugby World Cup starts today (18th September) so that is why we got this fun little Rugby Coaster Kit. So if you have any Rugby mad children this would definitely be a fun one they could do whilst watching a game or to pop your drinks while you enjoy the game.
We ended up turning this into more of a sorting activity. Whilst I was popping all the foam stickers out in the shape of different coloured Rugby tops and Rugby balls Amelia was popping them into the correct bowls and making sure the blues, reds and greens were all where they needed to be.
Amelia couldn’t quite peel them on her own but she was really good at sticking the tops where they needed to go and the balls where they needed to be too. I love her concentrating face in the photos! She had done loads of concentrating so she didn’t do the entire craft but I think that she’s possibly a little young for this one.
They turned out pretty fun and now if I find myself with some spare time I can sit back, relax, watch the Rugby and know that my drink is resting nicely on my personalised coaster.
I can’t recommend the Baker Ross supplies enough and I’ve got a few more of their bits to show you over the next few weeks!
