I haven’t been creative enough recently, I used to love finding different ideas of messy play, sensory ideas and crafts with Amelia but I’m back on it with lots of great ideas, starting with Fluffy Paint!
Based on what this one is made out of I would say your baby/toddler needs to be of an age where they don’t put in in their mouths!
This one was super fun, the texture and consistency was so weird. By it’s name it was super fluffy so painting with it was different to using normal paint but it gave some great effects. It is so easily made and made for a great afternoon of fun!
You will need;
To make the fluffy paint mix together equal parts of PVA glue to Shaving foam using a lolly stick. You can pick up PVA and shaving foam really cheap, I used one small can of shaving foam for all 7 colours!
I think I ended up using a bit to much shaving foam in a couple of colours so just keep mixing the glue in and then you can always add more if you need to. It should be puffed up but still be quite tacky and sticky. Add in your food colouring. I use the Wilton’s food colouring gel as you literally need just a drop to colour an entire bowl of paint. The paint dries darker so bare that in mind when choosing your colours.
I went for one of each colour I had just so I could experiment and then I left one just plain white to see the contrast.
I used coloured and white card as you need something thicker than paper to hold the fluffy paint. It looks better when it’s still wet compared to when it’s dry as it basically deflates so definitely more fun to play with and enjoy rather than the end product.
To begin with Amelia was so unsure and was just using the lolly sticks but by the end she was squeezing it between her fingers and doing hand prints with it! As it uses food colouring Amelia’s hands were a little stained at the end but it came off that night in the bath.
We made a rainbow and some balloons together but then Amelia just liked mixing all the colours up and doing giant blobs all over the card! I think it would look really cool on black card with the bright fluffy paint so that’s one to try next time.
It was a really fun activity to do and I had forgotten how much Amelia enjoys doing creative things so we will definitely be doing it again!
