When thinking about travel essentials it can be easy to over think and over pack. I’ve realised I pretty much just have to pack one for myself and then a mini me version for Amelia. To help me get a handle on what I would need to pack I’ve put together a mood board of our Travel Essentials.
To break it down I separated things into different headings;
The “Packing” Stuff-
To contain our travel essentials; backpacks! A suitcase will obviously be used but a backpack is an essential for me. I like to be hands free so I can hold Amelia’s hand and have the other arm avaliable. Myself and Amelia would obviously go for matching mother daughter backpacks like these ones from Tiba & Marl.
The “Mum” Stuff-
This is the stuff that you just have to have when you’re a Mum; as well as being in charge of Passports and Travel Docs. I’ll need to have a medical kit, wipes (because what parent doesn’t carry wipes?!) and suncream. These things are essential to make sure that no only do we have a good time, but that we are safe.
The “Swim” Stuff-
A main part of a holiday involves beaching/swimming so we will need all of our beachwear. Hats, sunglasses, flipflops and swimming costumes – matching of course?! A huge summer staple for Amelia is her bear hat; she has spent the last two summers in this hat so a holiday wouldn’t be complete without it. I’m pretty certain every day out we’ve had from June-September the hat has been present; it’s become a little Amelia trademark. Amelia is also a bit of a swimming costume hoarder so we would probably have one for each day; plus I can’t imagine I’ll get Amelia out of the water whilst holidaying.
The “Techy” Stuff-
I’m not sure whether it’s a blogger thing or just a parent thing but there’s no way I would go on holiday without my camera! Since blogging my passion for photography has really grown. I love having this blog space for all my photos and being able to look back on all our memories together. So a holiday wouldn’t be a holiday without snapping away the entire time. I would also need my phone and and iPad to keep Amelia occupied whilst we were travelling. Other techy bits would be a mass of charging cables for said techy devices.
The “Stuff” You Can’t Pack-
This is probably the most important section; these are the travel essentials that can’t be packed. My main holiday essential is Amelia; not only is she my daughter but my best friend. Being a full time single parent means that it’s just us two; we have to make our own adventures. We have so much fun and I would love to see our relationship on holiday. The other things that can’t be packed are the exploring we would do whilst on holiday and the memories we make whilst doing so. I know that they would be moments that we would remember forever.
The Stuff Amelia Would Pack;
I was chatting to Amelia about things she would want to pack and to be honest we would be totally lost if I left it down to her but we would have Nanny and Gramps, which is a bonus! But I love her idea of needing dancing clothes and her favourite sprinkle chocolates; essentials right there!
After putting together the Travel Essentials Mood Board it was so much easier to pull out my Top 10;
- Medical Kit
- Swimming Costumes
So there we have my top 10 travel essentials; most of which are the same for lots of people but they are our Mother Daughter Travel Essentials. I would love to be able to document these holidays and show that being a solo parent means you can still holiday just the same! I think it would be pretty exciting to see myself and Amelia hand in hand, outfits matching walking down the beach whilst the sun’s setting.
Thanks for reading!xx
