When October rolled around I saw my Instagram begin to turn a shade of orange as everyone started taking their annual trips to the Pumpkin patches and pick your own farms. It’s something I’ve done with Amelia for the last two years and I was keen to do it again to enjoy the activity and get some nice snaps.
The last couple of years we’ve been able to find time during the week to go but now Amelia’s at school I assumed we would go over a weekend. Sopley Farm are open until 5pm during October which actually made a little after school Pumpkin picking trip feasible.
Amelia was super excited when I picked her up from school and told her where we were going. She’d said to be a few days before when we saw pumpkins at the super market:
“Mummy we can’t buy our pumpkins from the shop we have to go and pick our own…” – such a typical response of a 2017 child!
There was a few people at the patch when we got there but after a little while we had it to ourselves. This year they had new wheelbarrows instead of the sledges which were so much easier to use. Plus Amelia just loved this addition. Filling it up and having me push her around in it whilst hunting for pumpkins.
Amelia initially said we needed really big pumpkins but then she realised she couldn’t quite lift those and that it would be best to go with smaller ones that she could load up into the wheelbarrow. It was so nice to do a weekday adventure; I’m finding school life very restricting with things like that. Perhaps it’s that alongside the change of season and a very tired four year old it’s just not made going out and about all seem that appealing but we had the best best time.
Here’s some photos of our trip; I think they are some new faves!!
