Spice up January with Gousto

Instead of going on a crazy diet this January throw some spice into the frying pan and cook up some different flavours with Gousto.

I think people can be intimidated by spices thinking that they all mean hot but that’s not the case if combined right they make food taste amazing. With the help of Gousto I’ve been able to add some spice into our meals. I’ll be honest I like spicy food as do my family but other than curry powder and a few other well known spices it’s not something I’m that familiar cooking with so using the prepared Gousto meal boxes and having the recipe card to follow made it easy.

For each week of January Gousto have featured a spice and talked about it and how it can be used in cooking. The first of four meals we received featured the spice Sumac to create Turkish Lamb Bulgur.

This dish combines harissa spice paste with cherry tomatoes and lamb with garlic yoghurt, dill bulgur and gives a warm North American flavour. Like always Gousto provides everything you need to create the dish and a simple recipe card to follow.

The thing I like most about the Gousto boxes isn’t just the convenience of having the boxes, the quality of the product inside but it introduces me to food we have frequently cooked in a different way and paired with different combinations.

The second meal we had was Walnut Chicken Schnitzel. This was a nice and simple one featuring mustard mash potato (delicious) and green beans but the chicken coated in crushed walnuts, breadcrumbs and thyme was the star. I loved the chicken cooked like this and it is definitely something we will have again!

The second and probably my favourite of all the Gousto spice dishes in this box was the Asian Salmon. Coconut cream rice and chilli stir fried veggies goes perfectly with the salmon. I could have had this over and over as the flavours were perfect together. What I like is that I can cook things differently to make it suitable for Amelia!

The final meal we had was Italian Sausages and mash. Again a meal we do have but cooked completely differently. The onions were cooked in a really tasty tomato paste with fennel seeds. I actually really like the addition of the curry like seeds in the onion relish it gave a completely new flavour that went really nicely with the sausages and the mash potato.

I am a huge fan of the Gousto boxes so if it’s something you haven’t tried yet I would 100% recommend it there are so many different meals to choose from. I have a discount code making it super reasonable and something that’s worth testing out!

Do you cook with any spices?

Ah what a great idea: my parents are definitely afraid of spices so whoever I visit I cook for them. They don’t always like it I don’t think but sometimes they venture into new recipes afterwards! x x

This looks awesome Alice!! Beautiful pics too 🙂 What a clever idea! My boy is the cook in our house — I’m great at cakes and puddings but really struggle with savoury dishes. Maybe I’ll get one of these in and surprise him with my ‘amazing’ chef skills!! 😉

Wow hun, your meals look delicious! I love cooking, but nothing like this. I’m a lasagne/spag bol/roast dinner kind of chef! x

That looks great – like you I think people underuse spices in their cooking, often turning to mixes to add spice instead. I took a curry cooking class and one of the first things the instructor did was get us to taste the spices, it was fascinating x

I’m really enjoying cooking at the moment and I especially love trying our different spices and flavour combinations. I think out of these meals, the Italian sausages and mash would be my fave. They all sound lush though. 🙂

Ooh these just look fabulous, your photos are amazing. I am vegetarian so these particular recipes aren’t really my bag but I know Gousto do veggie options as well, I must get around to checking them out.x

I’ve heard a lot about those boxes but I don’t think you can order them to Ireland. The dish looks amazing. I only use paprika, salt and pepper and sometimes oregano and basil. Nothing fancy. I don’t cook much to be honest. #love2blog
